Codes of Behaviour
Players have a responsibility to uphold the integrity of the game whilst they are training, competing on the playing field or representing St Andrew’s Cricket Club away from the field of play. This code of behaviour has been developed to guide your behaviour while you are a player at St Andrew’s:
Play by the rules and in the Spirit of Cricket.
Respect the umpires. If you disagree with a decision, ask your captain to approach the umpire in an appropriate manner during a break or after the game.
Control your temper. Verbal abuse of officials, sledging other players and deliberately distracting or provoking an opponent are not acceptable or permitted behaviours in cricket.
Work equally hard for yourself and your teammates. Your team’s performance will benefit and so will you.
Treat all participants in cricket as you like to be treated.
Cooperate with your coach, teammates and opponents. Without them there would be no competition.
Respect the rights, dignity and worth of every person regardless of their gender, ability, cultural background or religion.
Some of the greatest role models we have at St Andrew’s Cricket Club are our parents. When attending, assisting and supporting at games, please keep in mind the codes of behaviour listed below:
Remember that children learn best by example. Appreciate good performances and skillful play by all participants.
Focus on your child’s efforts and performance rather than winning or losing.
Feedback to your child is best delivered in a respectful and positive manner.
Remember that children are involved in cricket for their enjoyment, not yours.
Encourage your child to play by the rules.
Do not force an unwilling child to participate in cricket.
Respect officials’ decisions and teach children to do likewise.
Show appreciation for volunteer coaches, officials and administrators. Without them, your child could not participate.
Respect the rights, dignity and worth of every person regardless of their gender, ability, cultural background or religion.
The environment created by a coach is integral to the experience of all players involved within St Andrew’s Cricket Club.
Remember that many players participate for pleasure and winning is only part of the fun.
Feedback must be delivered in a respectful and positive manner.
Be reasonable in your demands on players’ time, energy and enthusiasm.
Operate within the rules and Spirit of Cricket and teach your players to do the same.
Ensure that the time players spend with you is a fun, engaging and challenging experience.
All young players need and deserve equal time, attention and opportunities.
Ensure that equipment and facilities meet safety standards and are appropriate to the age and ability of all players.
Display control and respect to all those involved in cricket. This includes opponents, coaches, umpires, administrators, parents and spectators. Encourage your players to do the same.
Show concern and caution toward sick and injured players. Follow the advice of a physician when determining whether an injured player is ready to recommence training or competition.
Obtain appropriate qualifications and keep up-to-date with the latest cricket coaching practices and principles of growth and development of young people.
Any physical contact with a young person should be appropriate to the situation and necessary for the player’s skill development.
Respect the rights, dignity and worth of every person regardless of their gender, ability, cultural background or religion.
St Andrews Cricket Club players and their immediate family members are encouraged not to post anything on any form of social media that is directly detrimental to the reputation of the club or any of its sponsors. Any club related grievances should be raised directly with the club Member Protection Information Officer (MPIO) who will act as a conduit to the club leadership to resolve any concerns. If this code of conduct is breached, the offending player will not be selected until the post has been removed and the offence is discussed and addressed with the club leadership.
